About Us

Urban Bushcraft is a Nottingham-based outdoor skills provider delivering expert-led bushcraft, survival, and nature-learning experiences for children, families, schools and community groups. We are Ofsted-registered and trusted locally for inclusive, safe and skill-based outdoor learning.

“A Person armed with simple tools, some ingenuity and a few wilderness skills can delve into the natural world in a way that most never do. Bushcraft is a body of knowledge that allows this, it is the art of survival and self reliance” - Mors Kochanski.

Our Founders

Kirsty Dexter

Founder & Lead Bushcraft Practitioner

Kirsty is the founder of Urban Bushcraft, with over 8 years’ experience delivering outdoor education to children, young people, and communities across Nottinghamshire. She blends real bushcraft skills with history, folklore, and a sense of adventure to create immersive outdoor learning experiences.

Known for bringing history to life, she weaves storytelling, mystery, and traditional skills into her work — sometimes stepping into the role of historical figures to spark curiosity and imagination.

Rooted in community, Kirsty is passionate about making bushcraft accessible to those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience it, helping people build confidence, capability, and a lasting connection to the outdoors.

Eddie Lee

Founder & Lead Instructor

Eddie is the co-founder of Urban Bushcraft and plays a key role in supporting the smooth delivery and ongoing development of the organisation. Eddie brings strong passion for bushcraft, outdoor learning, and community-focused work.

Alongside on-site support, Eddie oversees operations, finance, tech, and marketing, helping ensure Urban Bushcraft remains organised, sustainable, and accessible. His work behind the scenes allows sessions to run safely, efficiently, and with clear structure - supporting both staff and participants.

As part of the founding team, Eddie works closely with Kirsty to shape the direction of Urban Bushcraft, balancing creativity and adventure with practical planning and long-term growth.

Bushcraft and specialist outdoor skills are often inaccessible to inner-city families, leaving many without the opportunity to truly connect with nature or learn traditional ways of working with the land.

Urban Bushcraft exists to change that. Our vision is to deliver skill-led bushcraft experiences within the city, making outdoor learning accessible, inclusive, and meaningful. Alongside bushcraft techniques, we explore woodland management, food connection, social skills, teamwork, and care for shared spaces - empowering people to build confidence, capability, and respect for the environment around them.

Our Woodland Classroom

A one of a kind learning location, right here in Nottingham

Nestled in the heart of the city, our base is a hidden gem — a 41-acre privately-owned ancient woodland, tucked away on a working farm in Bulwell. Despite its urban location, the site offers a true sense of wilderness, creating the perfect setting for adventure, exploration, and deep nature connection.

Our woodland is also a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) recognised for its rare habitats and rich biodiversity. It’s home to an abundance of native species, making it an incredible real-world platform for learning about ecology, stewardship, and conservation in action.
